Lenskart is set to launch its AI-powered smart glasses in the fourth quarter of the ongoing financial year, the company announced on Saturday, entering the race where giants including Apple and Meta have already forayed in.
Lenskart, which went public earlier this year, said its “B by Lenskart Smart Glasses” is going to hit the market by March 2026 — joining a rising number of companies that are investing in the new technology.
In a letter to shareholders announcing the company’s Q2 results, Lenskart CEO Peyush Bansal said that the upcoming smart glasses will be powered by AI and Snapdragon.
“Our upcoming smart eyewear, “B by Lenskart Smart Glasses”, powered by AI and Snapdragon, is an effort to show that India can lead the next wave of consumer technology with products that are intelligent, personal, and globally relevant,” said Bansal in the letter.
What is B by Lenskart Smart Glasses?
Lenskart said it will launch B, its new smart glasses by March 2026, in an attempt to “redefine how people experience vision and technology”.
The company is deploying a full-stack approach in the making of the smart glasses, similar to its vertically integrated model for its prescription eyewear, it said in a statement.
Our upcoming smart eyewear, “B by Lenskart Smart Glasses”, powered by AI and Snapdragon, is an effort to show that India can lead the next wave of consumer technology.
Lenskart is designing the hardware, developing the software and mobile app in-house. The AI technology is being powered by Google Gemini.
“This complete control allows us to own the data ecosystem,” it said.
The glasses are built on Qualcomm’s AR1 chip and are prescription-lens capable.
UPI, health monitoring and other features
The first version of ‘B by Lenskart Smart Glasses’ include several features, namely —
- UPI payments.
- Health monitoring with food logging and recommendations.
- Photo and video capture.
- Real-time object scanning, translations.
- Personalised recommendations.
“To rapidly expand functionality, we have invited developers to collaborate and build features for our B Smart glasses,” the company said.
With the announcement, Lenskart has become one of the first Indian consumer tech brands to commercialise AI-driven eyewear, competing with products such as Meta-Ray-Ban Smart Glasses, Apple Vision Pro and Amazon Echo Frames.
On Thursday, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. began sales of its first smart glasses powered by its Qwen AI models, marking a rare foray into consumer hardware. Equipped with cameras, bone conduction microphones and swappable batteries rated to last 24 hours, this new product aims to offer the Chinese market something along the lines of Meta Platforms Inc.’s Ray-Ban smart glasses.
Lenskart has not yet announced a price on the product. However, a PTI report earlier this month mentioned quoting people familiar with the reason that it will be priced in a manner suited to Indian users.
